Dental Crowns

If your tooth has seen better days, a dental crown can give it a second chance. Maybe it’s cracked, worn down, or has had a big filling that’s failing. At O’Shea Family Dental, we use high-quality, natural-looking crowns to restore strength, function, and appearance. Think of it as a custom-fit helmet for your tooth!

What is a Dental Crown?

A crown is a custom-made restoration that completely covers the visible part of a tooth. It’s designed to strengthen and protect teeth that are damaged, weakened, or cosmetically compromised. Crowns are often used:

  • To restore a tooth after a large cavity or fracture
  • To protect a tooth after root canal treatment
  • To cover a discolored or misshapen tooth
  • To support a dental bridge
  • As the visible part of a dental implant

At O’Shea Family Dental, we ensure that your crown fits comfortably, functions naturally, and blends beautifully with your surrounding teeth.

What are Crowns made of?

We offer modern, durable materials that not only last but look great, too. Most of our crowns are made from porcelain or ceramic, which provide a natural appearance and are highly resistant to wear. In some cases, we may recommend other materials, such as zirconia or porcelain-fused-to-metal, depending on your specific needs.

We’ll walk you through the options and help you choose what’s best for your smile and lifestyle.

Our Services

What to Expect

Getting a crown usually takes two visits:

Visit 1: Preparation and Temporary Crown

  • We gently reshape the tooth and take impressions
  • You’ll leave with a temporary crown to protect the area

Visit 2: Final Crown Placement

  • Your custom crown is carefully fitted, adjusted, and bonded in place
  • We’ll make sure everything (your bite, comfort, and look) feels just right

Once your crown is placed, it functions like a natural tooth. Brush and floss normally, and you’re good to go!

Signs You Might Need a Crown

You may benefit from a crown if you have:

  • A cracked or broken tooth
  • A tooth with a very large filling that’s starting to fail
  • A tooth that’s been treated with a root canal
  • Visible wear or damage from grinding or trauma
  • Discoloration or irregular shape that affects your confidence

If you’re not sure if you may need a crown, we’re happy to take a look and talk through your options.
