Your Implant Journey: What to Expect
- Consultation & Planning: We start with a full exam, digital X-rays, and a CBCT scan if needed. This helps us evaluate your bone health, discuss your goals, and create a custom treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
Most patients say it's easier than they expected. We numb the area before placing the implant, so you should feel pressure but not pain. Afterward, you may have some swelling or tenderness for a few days. Over-the-counter pain relievers and ice packs usually help.
Many patients go back to work or their usual routine the next day. If you have more than one implant placed, or you also need a bone graft, you may want to plan for a couple of days of rest. We'll give you care instructions that fit your treatment.
Stick to soft foods like yogurt, eggs, soup, and mashed potatoes for the first several days. Avoid anything very hot, crunchy, or chewy, and try not to chew on the implant side. As you heal, you can slowly add your favorite foods back in.
It's rare, but it can happen. Smoking, gum infection, poorly controlled diabetes, and heavy teeth grinding can all raise the risk. Taking good care of your gums and keeping up with regular checkups goes a long way toward protecting your implant.
It depends on your needs. An implant stands on its own and doesn't need support from the teeth next to it, while a bridge relies on those teeth. Dr. O'Shea will go over both options with you and help you decide which one fits your smile, health, and budget best.
